Hiralbhai and his family have been the kind of clients every designer hopes for—generous, trusting, and deeply involved in the creative journey. From the outset, they sought meaningful, distinctive design rather than imposing arbitrary choices. This home was incredibly special to them, and its foundation lay in crafting a space that mirrors their warmth, artistic inclination, and generosity of spirit.
Upon entry, a matte-finished textured panel in earthy tones welcomes guests. Enlarged bird motifs—carefully selected—create a poetic gesture, greeting the family like cherished patrons entering a nurturing nest.
The drawing room and living room are treated with a homogeneous surface finish, serving as a generous background to accommodate creative detailing such as cane-framed photographs, curated artefacts, and carefully selected furniture. These spaces were designed with curves instead of corners in walls and ceilings , giving the surfaces a smooth flow. The curves near the entry also conceal services and storage, blending seamlessly into the background.
The color scheme, dominated by green across the sofa, chairs, rug, jhula, and artwork, echoes the natural world, infusing the space with tranquility. Antique fan, center table, lush indoor plants, and matte gold leaf wall detailing add richness and nuance. Walls feature subtly protruding battens, while a stretch fabric ceiling softens acoustics and light.
In contrast, the ceiling in the adjoining living space features flexible wooden battens that form a gentle arch—offering a sculptural counterpoint to the otherwise soft aesthetic. Pastel pink upholstery, a white pebble-shaped table, and warm textures across soft furnishings enrich this inviting environment while the battens running along the lower wall surfaces across both rooms help in balancing wall finishes.
A family photo frame crafted from cane—customized specially for the client to display treasured memories—was a very special gift from husband to wife, thus, It involved a lot of thought, precision, and collaboration with artisans to bring it to life exactly as we envisioned.
A divider made of matte gold metal jaali with wicker sandwiched in glass separates both rooms, giving flexibility for gatherings by allowing spatial expansion. The same detail is consciously carried onto the dining area doors, ensuring continuity in the use of wicker, which also extends to the kitchen cabinet shutters.
With a deep green glazed tile backsplash, wicker, and beige laminate shutters, the kitchen stands out beautifully in the transitional space. All room doors—including those for the general toilet and kitchen store—fall in this space, so it was important for us to minimize vertical lines and instead treat them as part of a cohesive backdrop for the dining space. We used marble-effect fluted panels cladded on the walls and doors to achieve this.
From one end of the kitchen store to the other, a glass-illuminated showcase breaks the monotony and provides crockery display for the dining. A sleek suspended light fixture right above adds charm, while the basin backsplash in dining features glazed tiles with a black metal frame on the side, and a green ceramic basin—a perfect combination for the space.
Flooring throughout these common spaces was changed to a light-veined stone in a herringbone pattern, offering understated sophistication without competing with the interior elements.
In the master bedroom, the design reflects the client’s preference for bright yet peaceful surroundings. A backdrop of fine linear detailing and a grand padded headboard form the room’s centerpiece. Soft, tactile accents—like a tripod side table and a bespoke lampshade—introduce warmth. The wardrobe combines powder blue and jute-effect laminates, enhanced by a hand-painted canvas shutter created by our artist. The shutter features a recessed drawer and provide handle on its edge, celebrating thoughtful craftsmanship. The room’s polished black granite flooring grounds the palette and adds contrast to the airy surfaces. An attached balcony, naturally shaded for much of the day, is transformed into a lush retreat complete with a swing, artwork, and greenery.
The son’s bedroom reflects his personality and interests in gaming, collectibles, and Formula 1 racing. A dedicated gaming nook holds his consoles and instruments. The feature wall art in mdf, inspired by F1 tracks around the world, was designed and composed to reflect his interests. The material palette reflects his taste with black, brown, and deep red accents. The tall, curved PU paneling at the back acts as a backdrop for patterned Corian tiles, the headboard, and integrated side drawers. The wardrobe features smoked glass profile shutters and metal-framed shelving, seamlessly blending into the room’s concept. The black granite flooring in this room reinforces the bold palette and gives the space a refined, masculine depth, while anchoring all elements visually.
The daughter’s room, on the other hand, is playful, delicate, and expressive—just like her. A custom-built walk-in wardrobe tucked beneath the bed, accessible via storage-integrated steps, has been lovingly nicknamed by her “cave.” A platform before the steps accommodates a pull-out bed for visiting friends and cousins. Her study wall and bathroom door are cleverly camouflaged into a mural—hand-painted by our artist to reflect her imagination. The entire space celebrates creativity, movement, and wonder.
In essence, interior design comes alive when it responds not just to function, but to feeling. This home is a heartfelt synthesis of a family’s personality and a designer’s vision—coming together to create a dwelling that is as soulful as it is thoughtful.
