When we were approached with the challenge of designing a home on a limited plot of around 600 yards, we knew it would be a test of our skills. Our client had a long list of specific requirements, including individual rooms for each family member, which we had to accommodate while making the most of the natural elements around us.
We took the plot's orientation, the direction of the sun, and the wind into careful consideration to create a design that would provide ample natural light and ventilation. We oriented the bungalow northwards, with the main bedroom and entrance facing east to capture the morning sun. The living spaces were placed on the north side to maximize light and garden views, while toilets and dressing areas were on the south side to create a barrier between the living spaces and the outdoors. We also included openings with barriers to filter the sun's heat while still allowing the breeze to pass through the bungalow effortlessly.
To create a grand entrance, we raised the bungalow in height to include a semi-basement that accommodated a home theatre. The vestibule was designed to make a stunning first impression with its triangular geometry pattern on the walls, creating a dramatic effect for onlookers. We merged the powder room's door with the same pattern to create an effortless flow.
The kitchen was positioned near the entrance to allow glimpses of who's entering the vestibule through small openings that merge with the triangular pattern. The dining area has a huge window opening that overlooks the garden, and a double-height slab that's further enhanced with a bridge connecting to a bedroom. The living room is connected to the dining area with a cornered window glass, creating a feeling of being outdoors while still inside.
We treated the facade to provide maximum blank masses on the west and south sides to avoid the sun's heat from entering the house. We included large windows on the east and north sides to ensure ample views and ventilation. Our design allows for easy breathing through all seasons, creating a livable and comfortable space for the client.
Overall, we designed a beautiful and functional home for our client by maximizing the natural elements around us. We included unique design elements, such as the cantilevered puja, to give the bungalow a distinctive touch. Our design will bring our client's dream of having individual rooms for each family member to life while creating a comfortable and livable space for all.
